Abstrak

Betel is one of the traditional plants used as an alternative in treating bacterial infections. Betel leaves are often used for traditional medicine such as anti-thrush and antiseptic. The potential of betel as a medicinal plant is due to the active compounds contained in it. This study aims to test the antibacterial activity of green betel leaf infusion (Piper betle L.) against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Staphylococcus aureus is a gram-positive bacteria part of the normal mucous membrane flora of the skin, but under the influence of predisposing factors it can become pathogenic. The betel is infused using aquabidest solvent at a temperature of 90˚C. The concentrations used for each treatment were concentrations of 15%, 20%, 25%, 30%, and 35%. Each concentration was tested for antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus using the paper disc diffusion method. Data analysis using the ANOVA test showed a significance value of p<0.05 with a significance value of 0.297, the normality test showed that the research data in all treatment groups followed a normal distribution and had good homogeneity p>0.05 with a significance value of 0.515 in each treatment group there was activity antibacterial properties of green betel leaves inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria.
